DSM luck

...so I'm coming home from the local salvage yard after an un-successful time of finding trim pieces, just cruising along, not romping on my car just cruising. Pull into the drive way and start the cooling down process,a few minutes at idle and all is well,or so I thought...I look at the temp gauge, and it's a little past half...WTF...I don't hear my fan! Switch on the a/c fan and pop the hood. My main fan isn't working!!! So I let it idle another minute or so,shut the car off and grab a beer to cool down while my car does. Apparently sometime before I pulled into the driveway, the fan stopped completely, froze up...the fan itself had fallen off the housing and was laying on the radiator, lucky no fins were bent, the fan though looks kinda ####ed...I checked that same salvage yards web page out, they have what I need to get it back up and running...BUT I call this morning and they are closed for a week to take inventory:| Just my DSM luck LOL

Yah I gotta ask around but for now I bought a new motor. Thought that would be an inexpensive fix until I can upgrade. Plus I'm changing out the temp sensor, perhaps having the fan run all the time wasn't a great idea:p

hey if you can just run out to autozone and pick up one of the there "cheapo slim fans" they are like $10 and will get you out to the scrap yard. But just make sure u dont keep the cheapo fan on there ### it will melt to your radiator.... ask me how i know that.

The shroud looks ok but the fan was a little rough where it came off the motor. JB Weld will fix that until I get something else. That fan isn't coming off that piece now lol. I got a new motor for $35 from Advance and thermo switch for$30 from Autozone, and new coolant.

You melted your fan to the radiator?

well techincally I didnt do it, it was the previous owner. When i removed the radiator i alway thought something was odd, then i realized that the autozone fan had melted at the bolt points and was all melted, needless to say the car must of overheated quite alot....

Well wired up the new fan motor today, works well so far. Put in the new temp sensor too but the fan still runs constantly. Perhaps the relay was bad and not the sensor? Or would the fan not run at all with a bad relay...a bad sensor? Time to get out my multimeter,in the meantime I'm glad the car is drivable again.

Its not uncommon for relay contacts to seize shut. try swapping relays if possible, that will help with a quick diag
